1. Asymmetry
Describe - Two candles were placed out into the living room for Halloween. They were gracefully placed at different levels, which made it perfect for asymmetry! The candles are lit, which brings a lively feeling.
Analyze - The candles are very similar, but they aren't equal. One is a deep orange, while the other one is a deep red. They are also not placed right next to each other, and one is taller than the other. The flame of the candle also makes up for most of the light, and easily becomes the main focus from the start.
Interpret - The candles bring an unbalanced yet similarity at the same time. It's as if it's a parallel relationship. They seem the same, yet they are unique enough from each other to differentiate.
Judge - I think I could have done a tad better in taking this one photo. There were objects in the way that I needed to get out by adjusting the position of the camera. If I were able to move the objects around the candles at the time, I would've been fully satisfied right now.
2. Fill the Frame
Describe - While my friend and I were sitting on the hidden bench at the front of the school, we noticed that when the light was shining off of the tree, there was a golden glistening light coming off from the bark. We got closer, and found that it was beautiful solid sap that was radiating its golden glow.
Analyze - The sap is placed right in the middle of the photo. It catches your eye right away because of its golden glow and its natural rain drop form. The bark is not neglected though, as it fills in the rest of the background. Without the bark filling in the background, people wouldn't be able to easily differentiate the bark and the sap.
Interpret - The bark and the sap are both two separate things. They both have their beauty even though one is rough and one is silky. The thing about both of these beautiful natural elements, though, is that one can't be valued without the other.
Judge - This photo shows the beauty of nature to me. The way the sap drips down the bark looked so amazing, yet it was so shocking to touch it (yes, my friend and I just HAD to touch it!) and find out that it was in fact near solid! This photo was a major success!
3. Leading Lines
Describe - At my friend's 16th birthday party, we decided to split off and go on an early morning walk along Coronado Beach. The gate separates the lands between Coronado and the military base. They make the gate look appealing (because a gate in between the water is not that appealing to start with) by placing art all along it.
Analyze - The gate starts on the sand, then leads all the way into the waters for around ten feet. It catches your eye because - Who sees a gate standing in the water? I makes your eyes follow the gate to see if it actually makes it into the water.
Interpret - The photo shows a separation that is trying to be made over a part of land that is impossible to separate. It's a bit comedic because it could simply be passed (Then a minute later the Navy Seals might jump out and surprise you, but you know what I mean)
Judge - I liked this photo because it was something that seems a bit ridiculous yet needed at the same time to separate a beach. It was quirky, but really cool at the same time.
4. Leading Lines (2)
Describe - There was renovation going on at my house, so we needed to be out of the house for a long while. We ended up just hanging out at Mission Bay Park, sitting in cars. I decided to get out and tour the bay, and found that I left a few footprints.
Analyze - The boot prints in the sand contrast the rest of the smooth sand along the beach. Boots on the beach are a bit strange, and it's even more strange to see that it leads to the waters. The waters are a bit dark and murky, but the sand is light and full of sea shells.
Interpret - The boots on the beach show a care free style of living that doesn't need to dress for the beach, but will jump out for an adventure. It also shows the beautiful detail of the sands and a different dark view of the waters.
Judge - I liked the fact that this photo was more of a result of an unexpected adventure. It was nice to get a great photo out of a time where we were "stranded" on the bay.
5. Pattern
Describe - ANOTHER SODA WALL. SODA WALLS. SODA WALLS. VINTAGE. SODA. WALL. vintage soda wall.
Analyze - The soda is all nice and neatly stacked along the wall. Did I mention that this wall is HUGE? The soda bottles all share a common shape, yet they all have their different labels, soda color, and of course, flavor! Go to Rocket Fizz in PB for all your vintage/candy/soda needs.
Interpret - The soda wall shows a bit of chaos, yet they're all so organized neatly. No matter how well you organize these soda bottles, they're all going to be different in their own unique way, which makes this soda wall pattern diverse and exciting.
Judge - Hey, it's a soda wall. I thought the Beef Jerky Root Beer Float shop in Old Town had a huge soda wall - OH, NO! There exist an even LARGER wall of delicious sodas! But, if I thought the soda wall in Old Town was large, that means somewhere else, there is the ultimate soda wall, and I WILL find it, and I WILL take a picture of it. (and I WILL try some of those sodas)
6. Pattern (2)
Describe - Hey, this was in Rocket Fizz too! Can you feel the vintage? Uncle Sam, Andy Warhol, Aerosmith - OH. MY. I would cover my fridge with all of these vintage gems!
Analyze - The magnets all have the same exact rectangular shape. They all have the same purpose as well. They all have a magnet on the back of them, and they can all attract. They need to differentiate themselves, so they each all have their different art design on them, which makes this pattern unique.
Interpret - Just like the soda wall, they're all different in a creative way. They appeal to all different kinds of people, even though when it comes down to it, they're all the same - They're just magnets.
Judge - I really enjoyed the angle that I took this photo at. You got to see some of the magnets at a crystal view, while the rest in the background were blurred. I especially like how my camera chose to keep Uncle Sam clear, you go Uncle Sam.
7. Rule of Thirds
Describe - Alright, so I use to be great at bowling, seriously, then I don't know what happened. Anyways, at my friend's 16 birthday party, we went bowling at night. There was a bunch of strobe lights and music videos flashing in the background of the scene, which made the whole situation fun and, you guessed it, a great photo opportunity.
Analyze - The bowler is located to the left section of the screen, while the rest of the background is donating to the light of the photo. It also gets to show the action of the bowler as he lets go for the ball (probably a strike).
Interpret - The bowling alley and the bowler is suppose to show a fun atmosphere, yet a gamble in where the bowling ball is going to end up. In such a fun background, you have an action scene right in the corner of the photo.
Judge - This photo was REALLY fun to take, and I loved the results! I sadly missed some bowl result opportunities because of my photo obsession, but it was such a fun photo to be able to take and share with everyone!
8. Rule of Thirds (2)
Describe - Point Loma Point looks so beautiful from Coronado Beach. The view was amazing, and it was crazy to think that Point Loma was that far, yet that close at the same time, so I just had to take a photo!
Analyze - Point Loma Point is jetting off from the right side of the screen, and cuts into the oceans that fills most of the rest of the photo. The waves add some action and life to the still ocean, and the sky is scarcely filled with any fluffy clouds. Each part of the photo has its own main focus.
Interpret - This picture is meant to show the beauty of the whole entire landscape. No three parts - the landmass, the ocean, the sky - is taken away from focus. Each part of the photo plays its role, and it shows how all together they make a beautiful team .
Judge - I was so glad to get the waves in the photo! The landscape was perfect, and I fortunate enough to be out there on the beach "early" to get no people in the way. Because we all know that later on in the day, that photo would be impossible to take without anyone getting in the way.
9. Simplify
Describe - So one of my friends came back to the hotel room after walking around Coronado Beach, and said that there was gold in the beach sand. I thought she was just over exaggerating, but then I went over and found a plentiful amount of golden specks all over the sand near the water! I needed to take a photo.
Analyze - Your eyes immediately see the black muscle shell on the side of the beach that is very contrast from the rest of the light colored background. You do end up seeing, though, as you keep looking on, the golden specks, the plants washed up from the moving waters, and the crystal ocean.
Interpret - Just like the Point Loma Point, it shows how even though you gravitate to one part of the photo first, there are more segments to the photo that are very beautiful as well. The muscle shell is easily gravitational, but the golden specks, the vegetation, and the ocean is just another added touch to make up the whole photo.
Judge - I was showing off this photo to everyone when I took it! I LOVED IT SO MUCH and I took so much pride in it! It was a huge success!
10. Symmetry
Describe - Penguino Bambino. There's a ton of them, and that makes me happy. Penguin galore.
Analyze - The Empire Penguins were all standing proudly next to each other. They know they're leaders, and they don't make anyone else forget that. They all stand tall, even though all of the penguins around them look just like them. Black and white, beak, flippers, oh, silly penguins!
Interpret - Those penguins all stood together like a strong family. They stuck with each other on top of the ice burg, and watched all the other penguins below them. They showed everyone that saw them had a strong base, and they were not brought down easily (love the dramatic background story?)
Judge - I was laughing when I took this photo! I loved how the penguins were arranged in such a professional way! But, of course, it was adorable as well!
I have a couple of favorite photos. I really like my sap photo, soda wall photo, bowling photo, and simplify photo. They're all so different, yet I like each of them! The sap photo was amazing to catch on camera, but even better in person. The soda wall was of course, knowing me, fun! The bowling picture was unique to me because it reminded me of one of those photos you put on the side of a Jone's Soda case - WAIT. WAIT. Maybe, just maybe, I'll try to do that! And the simplify photo was just a great photo to brag about and show everyone. Those were my favorites because they followed me along my adventures, and it was a fun experience!
